Finde Dos

Pues, por fin he hecho algo activo.  Entretuve con el equipo de Ultimate Frisbee madrileño, Los Quijotes y Dulcineas el jueves.  Es posible que el campo sea uno de los peores sitios para jugar deportes del mundo.  Todo el campo es polvo con rocas pequeñas y algún cristal roto.  También, estaba un poco decepcionado con la gente porque la mayoría es de los EEUU...  A pesar de todo esto, me divertí mucho y todos son muy amables.  Los entretenimientos tienen lugar cada martes, jueves y sábado, y querría ir por lo menos todos los martes y jueves si posible.

El viernes, miré la puesta del sol al Templo de Debod, un templo egipcio en el Parque del Oeste.  La puesta no fue muy espectacular, pero el ambiente era muy romántico, y habían muchas parejas.  Me reuní con el resto del grupo para la cena.  Queríamos ir a un bar se llama El Lagar, pero estaba demasiado lleno, entonces cenamos en un restaurante cercano.

Luego, regresamos al templo para un botellón.  Botellón es una tradición española en que los jóvenes se reúnen, usualmente en parques públicos, para pasar un rato y beber.  Este evento fue organizado a través de Facebook para los alumnos de Erasmus, un programa grande de intercambio europeo.  Tuvo mucho éxito, y estaban más de 300 personas cuando llegamos.  Conocimos a mucha gente europea, y hablamos con ellos en inglés y español.  Era muy divertido, y me enteré que es MUY difícil de entender el español con un acento alemán...

No hice nada sábado por la mañana, pero fui con Haley, Chloe, Kate y Joe a Lavapiés en la tarde.  Este barrio tiene un ambiente muy agradable porque hay muchos cafés con mesas afuera, llenas de gente simplemente gozando de la vida.

Desafortunadamente, cené en McDonald's :(.  Caminé con Jessica, Kayla y Will a Sol para reunirnos con el resto del grupo en un bar.  Nos marchamos a la una, y fuimos a la discoteca Joy Eslava.  Era tan divertido.  El interior parecía como un teatro antiguo sin butacas, y la música era muy alta, muy buena y principalmente en inglés.  Bailamos sin parar desde las 2:00 hasta las 5:00, y luego, fuimos para tomar chocolate con churros, otra maravillosa tradición española.

El Domingo, Chloe, Stella, Cate, Haley, Anika y yo miramos una interpretación interesante de la obra Carmen.  En vez de la ópera, era una presentación de flamenco basado en el cuento de Carmen usando alguna de la música de Bizet, pero principalmente música flamenca.  Mi señora volvió a casa de su crucero en el Mar Báltico, Jaime fue a Barcelona con su novia, y mañana el hijo de Beltrán cumple dos años, entonces, van a cenar con nosotros.  ¡Ojalá que haya tarta!


Well, finally I've done something active.  I practiced with the Ultimate Frisbee team from Madrid Thursday, Los Quijotes and Dulcineas.  It's possible that the field is one of the worst places in the world to play sports.  The entire field is dust with small rocks and some broken glass.  I was also a little disappointed with the people because the majority is from the US...  Despite all this, I had a lot of fun and everyone is really nice.  The practices take place every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and I would like to go at least every Tuesday and Thursday, if possible.

Friday, I watched the sunset at the Temple of Debod, an Egyptian temple in the Park of the West.  The sunset wasn't very spectacular, but the environment was very romantic, and there were many couples.  I met up with the rest of the group for dinner.  We wanted to go to a bar called El Lagar, but it was too full, so we ate at a nearby restaurant.

Later, we returned to the temple for a "botellón".  Botellón is a Spanish tradition where young people get together, usually in public parks, to hangout and drink.  This event was organized through Facebook for students from Erasmus, a large foreign exchange program in Europe.  It was very successful, and there were more than 300 people when we got there.  We met a lot of Europeans and spoke with them in English and Spanish.  It was a lot of fun, and I found out that it is VERY difficult to understand Spanish in a German accent...

I didn't do anything Saturday morning, but I went with Haley, Chloe, Kate, and Joe to Lavapiés in the afternoon.  This neighborhood has a very nice feel because there are a lot of cafés with tables outside, filled with people simply enjoying life.

Unfortunately, I ate dinner at McDonald's :(.  I walked with Jessica, Kayla, and Will to Sol to meet up with the rest of the group at a bar.  We left at 1:00, and went to the discoteca Joy Eslava.  It was so fun. The interior looked like an old theater without the seats, and the music was very loud, very good, and mainly in English.  We danced without stopping from 2:00-5:00, and we then went to get hot chocolate with churros, another marvelous Spanish tradition.

Sunday, Chloe, Stella, Haley, Cate, Anika, and I watched an interpretation of the work, Carmen.  Instead of the opera, it was a flamenco performance based on the story of Carmen using some of the music of Bizet, but mostly flamenco music.  My señora returned home from her cruise in the Baltic Sea, Jaime went to Barcelona with his girlfriend, and tomorrow Beltrán's son turns two, so they are going to eat dinner with us.  Hopefully there's cake!
