La Villa y Corte: Madrid

¡Estoy en Madrid!

Nos fuimos de Santiago de Compostela por avión el jueves a las 9:30 y llegamos en Madrid a las 10:30.  Después de recoger nuestro equipaje, nos saludaron Nieves, nuestra ayudante aquí en Madrid y algunas señoras.  Conocí a mi señora, Campana Figueroa Melgar, y su hijo, Alvaro, y salimos del aeropuerto.  Hablamos en el coche (un mercedes benz nuevo) un poco por casi 20 minutos hasta llegamos a su casa.

Viven en un apartamento bellísimo en la planta más alta del edificio (el 6º).  Alvaro me mostré mi cuarto y luego, el apartamento entero.  La mejor parte es una terraza genial con muchas plantas, una mesa y dos sofás.  También hay unas puertas que abren para exponer la tele enorme dentro.  A veces, tornan la tele para mirar pelis por la noche en la terraza.

Campana tiene 4 hijos, Rodrigo (26), Alvaro (29), Jaime (32) y Beltrán (no sé).  Rodrigo está en India estudiando el cine de Bollywood, pero conocí a los otros a la comida.  Alvaro trabaja para BP en casa, Jaime está desempleado (en casa) y no sé lo que hace Beltrán.  Además, tienen una criada peruana se llama Jacqueline.  Comimos juntos en la terraza y probé el gazpacho por la primera vez.  Me gustó mucho.  También comimos filetes de pollo y patatas fritas con melón para el postre.  Estaba cansado porque me desperté a las 6:45, así tomé una siesta.

Luego, hablaba con mi señora, y compartimos algunas fotos de nuestras familias.  Cenamos juntos también, y Beltrán trajo a su familia esta vez.  Tiene una esposa, Marta, y un niño muy mono, Jaime, que parece tener 2 años.  Marta está embarazada con número dos y el nacimiento debe ocurrir entre unos meses.  La familia parece tener una relación muy buena.  Puedo verlo en que el hijo de Beltrán tiene el mismo nombre que su hermano, y Alvaro es el padrino.  Comimos un plato de pimientos rojos relleno de queso y tapado con algo bueno, tortilla de patata y helado de dulce de leche.  Todos son muy agradables y tienen paciencia conmigo.

Me desperté a las 8:20, desayuné y tomé el autobus al Museo de la Reina Sofia.  Desafortunadamente, esta visita solo fue una lectura del cine por uno de nuestros profes nuevos.  Estaba muy decepcionado, porque me aburrió mucho y no pudimos ver los cuadros famosos.  Pero, vimos la Guernica, la cual es increíblemente grande y impresionante.

Regresé por metro y comí con Alvaro, Jaime y Campana.  Hablo ya con más confianza y solo ha pasado un día.  Estoy muy contento aquí, y pienso que estes 3 meses serán muy cómodos y divertidos.  Campana se fue para un crucero del Mar Báltico que se planearon hace mucho tiempo, y Alvaro está asistiendo una boda en Galicia.  Así, Jaime y yo tenemos la casa para el finde. :)


I'm in Madrid!

We left Santiago de Compostela by plane Thursday at 9:30 and arrived at 10:30.  After picking up our luggage, we were greeted by Nieves, our helper in Madrid, and some of the host moms.  I met my señora, Campana, and her son, Alvaro, y we left the airport.  We talked a little in the car (a new Mercedes Benz) for about 20 minutes until we arrived at their home.

They live in a gorgeous apartment on the top floor of the building (the 6th).  Alvaro showed me my room and later, the whole apartment.  The best part is an amazing terrace with lots of plants, a table, and two couches.  There are also doors that open up to show a massive TV inside.  Sometimes, they turn the TV around to watch movies at night on the terrace.

Campana has 4 sons, Rodrigo (26), Alvaro (29), Jaime (32) y Beltrán (don't know).  Rodrigo is in India  studying Bollywood film, but I was able to meet the others at lunch.  Alvaro works for BP at home, Jaime is unemployed (living in the house), and I don't know what Beltrán does.  Also, they have a Peruvian maid named Jacqueline.  We at together on the terrace and I tried gazpacho for the first time.  I liked it a lot!  We also ate chicken filets and french fries, with melon for dessert.  I was tired from waking up at 6:45, so I took a siesta.

Later, I talked with my señora, and we shared photos of our families.  We ate dinner together too, and Beltrán brought his family this time.  He has a wife, Marta, and a very cute kid, Jaime, who looks to be about 2.  Marta is pregnant with number 2, and the birth should happen within a couple months.  The family seems to have a really good relationship.  You can see it in that Beltrán's son shares the name of his brother, and Alvaro is the godfather.  We ate a dish of red peppers filled with cheese and topped with something good, potato omelette, and caramel ice cream.  Everyone is very friendly and patient with me.

I woke up at 8:20, at breakfast, a took a bus to the Reina Sofia Museum.  Unfortunately, this visit was just a lecture of film by one of our new professors, and we couldn't see the famous paintings.  But, we did see Guernica, which is incredibly big and impressionable.

I returned by metro and ate with Alvaro, Jaime, and Campana.  I already speak with more confidence and it's only been one day.  I'm very happy here, and I think the next 3 months are going to be very comfortable and fun.  Campana left for a cruise in the Baltic Sea which was planned a long time ago, and Alvaro is attending a wedding in Galicia.  So, Jaime and I have the house for the weekend. :)
